Descendants of John Clarke (est 1503 - est 1559)
Aurelia (Clarke) Ferson (1821 - 1914), above, was the maternal grandmother of my Grandma
Kirkland, so one of my great x 2 grandmothers. John Clarke was from County Suffolk,
England, and one of my great x 11 grandfathers. His descendants stayed there
until my ancestors among them migrated to the New World about 1637, helping settle
and charter Rhode Island. They settled in Newport and then Westerly in the southwest
corner of the colony. Father and son Clarke ancestors fought as patriots in the
Revolutionary War, the son afterwards moving from Westerly to Brookfield, NY
(south of Utica) - where Aurelia was later born. She moved to Illinois, probably
with her parents, where in 1846 she married Parker Ferson (1812 - 1876) in Elgin
and settled in his nearby hometown of St. Charles.
The 1987 Parker Ferson genealogy described in the Ferson section of this compilation
was the source of the above information on the Clarkes, citing several earlier
Clarke family studies.
